Women Rectors’ Perspectives on the Status of Women in Academia
This panel will bring together university leaders from across Europe to examine the current challenges of achieving gender equality in academic institutions. It will explore why women’s leadership is essential for driving inclusive change, the opportunities that emerge when women hold top decision-making roles, and the persistent barriers that must be overcome. Speakers will also reflect on broader structural issues shaping women’s careers and the future of equitable academic governance, moderated by Prof. dr. Inga Žalėnienė, Rector of Mykolas Romeris University.
'Epistemic Algorithmic Drift: Artificial Intelligence, Scientific Knowledge, and the Normalization of Gender Inequalities'

Paola Panarese is Full Professor at Sapienza University of Rome, where she teaches gender and media studies and directs the Master’s in Gender Studies, Culture, and Media Policies. She leads the GeMMa Research Unit, the Mediamonitor Minori Observatory, and the UXLab, focusing on gender, media, youth cultures, and algorithmic bias, and is Principal Investigator of the PRIN PNRR project IMAGES on inclusive machine learning and addressing gender and ethnic stereotypes.
Her keynote presentation, AI Bias and Gendered Knowledge Production: Rethinking Equity in Scientific Futures, explores how AI in science can reinforce or challenge gender and social inequalities. Drawing on feminist epistemology and critical algorithm studies, it examines biased data, algorithmic mediation in peer review, and platform-driven narratives of scientific legitimacy, while proposing strategies for more equitable and inclusive scientific futures.
White Paper on Gender Policies in Science and Academia (RAICEX)
One of the conference’s highlighted presentations will feature the launch of the White Paper on Gender Policies in Science and Academia, developed by RAICEX, the Network of Spanish Researchers and Scientists Abroad, which connects Spanish researchers worldwide to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Directed by RAICEX’s Research and Gender Commission, the book offers a multidimensional analysis of gender inequality in science across 14 countries on four continents, examining national and global factors, existing policies, and strategies driving greater equality in academia.

Researchers from all disciplines are invited to submit their work. Accepted abstracts may be presented orally, both in-person and online, and can also be developed into full papers for the conference proceedings, with additional opportunities for publication and wider dissemination.
